Class Trip

Last Thursday we went to the Waitakere Transfer Station as part of our learning about Recycling.

Below are some things that we didn't know before we went.
Rubbish gets put in a hole in the ground called a landfill. (Lukas)
Plastic is made out of oil. (Jeet)

In the future...
I am going to recycle, compost, reuse and have a worm farm because I want Auckland to have 0% waste. (Kaia)
I am going to reuse my plastic bags because they cannot be recycled. (Justin)
I am not going to take clothes hangers from the shops. (Simon)

Abbie's Writing

In the holidays Abbie attended a Writers Camp. Read the beginning of the story she is currently working on.
Summerville was always a peaceful village, with a wonderful mayor and happy villagers.
But this story is about one certain little girl, called Sienna who has always stayed away from the town hall for-hire-but-always-closed lounge. Always, except once.
Sienna lives next door to the town hall so every night she listens to parties and celebrations going on inside the main hall. Her room was covered in posters of her favourite monster stories and pictures of herself.
If she looked out her window right now she would see the old town hall bell tower, which would be rung every hour. DING, DONG, DING, DONG, it would go, filling the air with its spine-prickling sound.

The Senior Syndicate Production

On Monday we went to watch the first performance of the Senior Syndicate production called 'Move It'. We thought it was fantastic. When we got back to class we did a PMI.

PMI by Sophie
Positives - singing, dancing, dance music, funny old people

Minus - Car wash sign upside down, couldn't hear old people, fighting each other

Interesting - Sam danced with Blaze, Blaze and Hypnotics made one dance group, car wash at the same time

PMI by Joseph, Marius and Bethany
Positives - cool dances and songs, groovy music, favourite characters are Sam, Nicole and Oldies

Minus - Oldies spoke quietly, some dances really quick

Interesting - Choir singing in two different parts

Kids Can Cook

We went to the Kids Can Cook show. Here are some of our thoughts.

I learnt that you have to clean your hands before you start cooking. Another interesting thing was that we got to go to the vegetable garden and find ingredients to use in our crepes.
By Lukas

I thought it was amazing because we got to taste test. Another interesting thing is that there is a sous chef in cooking.
By Thomas

I found out that you can squeeze and flick to open an egg. Another interesting thing is that you can flip a crepe. Some of the things you can put in crepes are cream and berries.

Poppies

We had to use scale and size to draw an ANZAC Poppy. We had to mix and blend paint to create new colours.

Silhouettes

We had to trace around our partner using the projector. We then filled in the space using interesting patterns. The patterns had to be coloured in warm (yellow, orange, red) or cool (blue, green, indigo) colours.

Character Descriptions

We hope you enjoy our character descriptions.

Grunty the Little Brown Bear
His brown fluffy fur is sparkly soft like the clouds. His eyes are sparkly and blue. He loves sport. He loves playing stuck in the mud. He grunts when he makes a noise. He's little like me.
By Arabella

The Witch
The witch has a nose as pointy as her hat. She has plaited ginger hair that is as ginger as her cat. The witch has a gliding dark, black cape. She has blood-red clothes that look like a ripe tomato. The witch likes to float on her brown, wooden broomstick.
By Simon

The Dragon
The dragon has two bright orange eyes. He has scaly, fiery, red skin. He has a big booming voice. The dragon likes to blow fire and eat witches with chips.

Turbo Touch

We have been learning to play Turbo Touch. Thanks to our coach Clare who taught us all of the rules and skills needed to play. The ball can be passed forwards (and backwards, sideways, anyway you like!). Teams only have two possessions to create a Touchdown.

Autumn Cinquains

We have been learning to write cinquains with Mrs Olliver. A cinquain is a five-line poem that describes a person, place or thing.

Autumn
hot, cold
raining, falling leaves, freezing
Autumn can be hot and cold
Fall

By Maia

Autumn
cold, windy
freezing, falling, raining
looking at red trees
Fall

By Genzui

Autumn
windy, rainy
freezing, falling, dangling
rustling leaves fall to the ground
Fall

Assembly

This week we have been rehearsing a special assembly for Mrs Chambers who is leaving our school after 30 years! Read our quickwrites that we wrote in four minutes.

I think our assembly is going to be awesome because I love being the narrator in stories. My favourite part is when Briana and I recite the rhyming part. I think Sophie is brilliant as Mrs Chambers. I really want to be her! It is cool how the song 'All About That Bass' has changed to 'All About Those Books' because I love reading and I like changing songs like that.
By Abbie

I think our assembly is going to be fantastic. I like the part when Hamza reveals the exercycle and Sophie rides it huffing and puffing madly away. Miss Rodger has been a bit grouchy this week, this is because some kids aren't sitting still or concentrating. She wants us to get our voices louder than our normal voices.

Swimming

We have loved our Swimsation lessons this term. Read the fantastic swimming poems we wrote with Mrs Morley.

Splash, bash, glug
Water goes boom up into the air and down like rain
The bubbles sparkle in the water like diamonds floating
The waves we make smash onto the wall of the pool
The water sparkles and the sun burns on the water
By Jasper

Splish, splash, crash, boom
Snorkling with bubbles surrounding me
Sun shining clear as icicles hanging off a mountain
Waves smashing against my face
Waves swirling like a wave pool
By Kaia

Splash, crash, boom
Kids jumping into the cool crystal water
Making swirling whirlpools as kids swim around in circles
Bubbles bubble up to the surface like floating shiny stars
By Sophie
